Driving Business Efficiency: Optimizing Industrial Processes and Sludge Generation for Enhanced Performance
This course will equip the participants with the knowledge of sludge generation processes and how the sludge can be minimized.
Description
Sludge (SW204) is one of the top 3 scheduled wastes generated by the industries besides ash/slag/dross (SW104) and gypsum (SW205). Most industries generate sludge from the processes such as acid pickling, anodizing, plating, etching and etc. Sludge is formed when dissolved heavy metals or suspended pollutions in the effluent are converted into insoluble solids during the treatment. Sludge is generated by almost all types of industries including metal plating, electronics & PCB manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, petrochemical & refinery, power plant, pulp & paper and food & beverage industry.
However, Competent Person are generally lack of knowledge and experience in the processes and how the effluent with dissolved metals is being generated. So, it is a challenge for a Competent Person to tackle on the sludge issues and to seeks ways to minimise the sludge.
The course attempts to study the various processes in these industries and how the dissolved heavy metals are formed. Once the sludge generation processes are known, sludge minimization program can then be proposed. After the course, participants will have a clear understanding on the various sludge generating processes in the industries and can relate these processes with the actual industry they work in, hence propose for sludge reduction program.
Course Objectives
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
-
Comprehend the various industries processes that generate effluent with dissolve metals and how the sludge is being generated.
-
Propose metal recovery and sludge minimization program in their own industry.
-
Competent Person who practices this will enhance the circular economy concept and minimize dependence on raw water and material. At the same time, minimize the generation of toxic sludge that is detrimental to our preservation of environment.
